Academy Membership
In January 2020 we launched the FNF Academy intending to maximise the influence of our expert alumni community in research, policy and to enable the growth of nursing and midwifery leadership. We are creating platforms for them to consult, inform, drive and improve services through their unique knowledge and leadership acumen. Increasingly we are becoming known as an organisation that provides thought leadership on the issues that are critical to nurses and midwives and an organisation that elevates the nursing and midwifery voice to have major influence and impact.
We are now thrilled to extend our network through the offer of membership of the FNF Academy to Chief Nurses, Directors of Nursing/Midwifery and Executive Directors of Nursing. We aim to address the current unmet needs of the most senior nurses and midwives and provide personal support, networking, policy engagement and influencing opportunities. Additional benefits are also available to all nurses and midwives in the organisation. Furthermore, from November 2021, we are welcoming Higher Education Institutions which provide nursing and midwifery education. Membership includes excellent benefits for students; scroll down to the ” More Information on HEI membership” section to find out more.

The “Senior Nurse” will have opportunity to become part of the Members Advisory Group. Biannually the Advisory Group are asked to determine the priorities for the FNF Academy policy outputs. All policy work will focus on leadership with the view to improving nursing and midwifery clinical excellence and health and clinical outcomes. It will not conflict with our partner organisations.
- Stage 1: The Advisory Group will determine themes arising from experiences, lack of current evidence base, scholar/leadership programme participants’ quality improvement (QI) projects and national policy priorities
- Stage 2: The FNF team will scope the literature to identify the knowledge base and the key stakeholders will be identified from the FNF network
- Stage 3: Activity and outputs will be selected depending on the outcome of stage 2 and may include developing leadership capacity or utilising the evidence to inform policy
- Stage 4: Each area of activity will enable and/or will develop an area to impact on clinical excellence and patient and health outcomes
A shared decision-making forum comprising of “point of care” nurses and midwives from the member organisation also hold devolved responsibility to provided oversight and operational guidance on the activity of the Academy to ensure membership benefits are aligned with the priorities of the workforce.
